Company: Qualcomm India Private Limited Job Area: Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Software Engineering General Summary: The Senior Audio Software Engineer will be a technical pillar within the IoT Audio team, responsible for the design and commercialization of user-space audio stacks.
You will lead the integration of the Qualcomm Audio Layer (QAL) and Audio Reach (CASA) across a diverse portfolio of products, including premium soundbars, and industrial IoT platforms (IQ-series).
In this role, you are expected to handle complex features, provide system-level architectural guidance, and mentor junior engineers to scale the team’s capabilities.
Key Responsibilities Architectural Leadership: Drive the adoption and optimization of the Audio reach.
Design and maintain modular user-space components that interface with the GSL (Generic Services Layer).
Framework Ownership: Own the Audio HAL and ST HAL (Sound Trigger) implementations.
Ensure seamless integration with Android Audio frameworks (AudioFlinger, AudioPolicyManager) or Linux-based middleware (PulseAudio/PipeWire).
Complex Feature Development: Lead the development of high-impact features such as Voice UI (SVA/Wake-word), high-fidelity VoIP, A2DP offload, and multi-channel surround sound (Dolby/DTS) on Qualcomm DSPs.
System-Level Debugging: Triage and resolve complex, intermittent system issues involving race conditions, memory leaks, and performance bottlenecks across the user-space/kernel-space boundary.
Performance Optimization: Guide the team in optimizing audio latency.
Mentoring & Review: Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers.
Lead code reviews and technical design discussions to ensure code quality and adherence to Qualcomm’s software standards.
Customer Interaction: Act as a technical lead for Tier-1 OEM engagements, translating customer requirements into software designs and resolving critical commercialization blockers.
Skills & Experience Requirements Technical Must-Haves: Experience: 3-5.5 years of experience in embedded audio software development.
User Space Expertise: Expert-level knowledge of Android Audio HAL, Linux ALSA, and IPC mechanisms (Binder, Shared Memory).
Qualcomm Tech Stack: Proficiency with QAL (Qualcomm Audio Layer), ACDB (Audio Calibration DataBase), and interacting with Hexagon ADSP services.
Programming: Mastery of C/C++ and familiarity with modern software design patterns.
Debug Tools: Advanced proficiency with QXDM, T32 (Trace32), GDB, and audio analyzers.
Senior-Level Competencies: Proven ability to lead a feature from requirement analysis to final product commercialization.
Strong understanding of the Real-time OS (RTOS) concepts and how they interact with high-level OS (HLOS) user space.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Gerrit, and Git for large-scale collaborative development.
Qualifications
Knowledge of LE Audio, SoundWire, and next-generation Bluetooth audio protocols.
Experience with Voice Assistant integration (Alexa, Google Assistant) and DSP-based preprocessing (ECNS) Minimum.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
2+ years of academic or work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.
